Working with the handheld (MDE)
A large part of the daily warehouse work in SIEVERS WMS does not happen at the PC but on the MDE (mobile data capture device). Warehouse staff record goods movements directly on site by scanning – paperless, fast and posted to the system immediately. This page gives an overview of how it is operated. The individual functions are described in detail under Using the MDE device.
Tipp
The handheld is the central interface between employee and warehouse. Once you understand the menu structure and the operating logic, you will quickly find your way around every function.
At a glance
| Feature | What it means |
|---|---|
| Paperless | Warehouse receipt, picking, transfers and stocktaking are captured directly on the device. |
| Posted instantly | Every movement is posted to Business Central immediately, keeping the stock up to date. |
| Guided | The screens lead through the process step by step and reduce errors. |
| Consistent | All functions follow the same screen layout and the same operating rules. |
Hardware used
SIEVERS WMS is optimized for common handheld and scanner hardware. The primary supported device is the Zebra MC3300 (resolution 800×480, Android). Further devices (e.g. Zebra TC21/26/72, ET51 tablet, Honeywell CK65/EDA61K) are supported with the appropriate adjustments. Device setup is described in the Setup guide.
Layout of the interface
The main menu is divided into three tabs:
| Tab | Content |
|---|---|
| A | The core processes: warehouse receipt, internal transports, transfer, picking, packaging, loading, information. |
| B | Supplementary functions: SSCC info, SU label, inventory adjustment, warehouse receipt unloading, stocktaking. |
| C | Production-related functions: production take-out, production supply. |
The header of every screen always shows the working context:
- logged-in user
- currently selected SIEVERS WMS Team (logistics team)
- active forklift
- assigned printer station
You switch team, forklift and printer station via A8 Team / Forklift.
Operation and hotkeys
Operation is done via the scan field, the menus and function keys (hotkeys). Some hotkeys are required to operate a process, others merely support the work.
| Key | Effect |
|---|---|
| P1 (device) or Ctrl + M (browser) | Opens the menu for the current screen and shows the available key combinations together with the corresponding function key. |
| F1–F12 | Trigger the functions shown in the menu. |
| F10 | Opens the help in every function. |
| → (right arrow) | Opens the information function. |
Hinweis
Whether hotkeys are triggered via the function keys (F1–F12) or via Ctrl + letter is controlled in the Mobile setup.
Logging in
You log in to the handheld either by entering the user data manually or by scanning a barcode. You print the personal login barcode from the Mobile User list (action Print User Login Barcode). Only users listed there as Mobile Users can log in.
