Picking
Picking describes the assembly of goods from the warehouse according to requirements from sales orders, transfers, or other source documents. It is the central step in the warehouse shipment process between planning and dispatch.
Picking in SIEVERS WMS
SIEVERS WMS controls picking via picking documents, which are created and released from the warehouse shipment planning. Operational execution takes place on the MDE device via A4 Picking. SIEVERS WMS supports various picking strategies, from classic order-by-order picking to serial batch picking.
Packaging can take place directly during picking (Pick & Pack) or as a separate step via A5 Packaging. Shipping labels are generated automatically depending on the carrier setup.
Process Variants
| Variant | Description | When to use? |
|---|---|---|
| Diverse Order Handling | Bundling of multiple orders with the same delivery address into one picking document | When multiple orders for the same delivery address are to be processed simultaneously |
| Pick & Pack | Combined picking and packaging in one step with direct SSCC creation | When no separate packaging process is desired |
| Parallel Picking | Multiple pickers simultaneously process partial documents of one order | For time-critical orders with many lines |
| Series-Oriented Picking | Cross-order summation and batch picking of multiple orders | For many single-line orders and small/light items |
| Multi-Order Picking (MOP) | Order-pure parallel picking of multiple orders into separate cart compartments | For many small orders without subsequent distribution |
Tipp
The choice of picking method depends on the order structure. For large quantities of similar orders, series-oriented picking is recommended. For urgent single orders with many lines, parallel picking is suitable.
Choosing the Right Method
The right method depends on order structure, number of lines, volume, and warehouse equipment. For a full decision guide including setup instructions per method, see Picking Methods.
Labels and Shipping Preparation
The following processes generate shipping labels during picking or packaging. They are not standalone picking methods but supplementary functions:
| Variant | Description | When to use? |
|---|---|---|
| GS1 Amazon Label | Creation of GS1-compliant SSCC labels for Amazon orders | When Amazon is used as a shipping channel |
| Carrier Label | Creation of carrier labels (DHL, DPD, etc.) | When connected to one or more shipping carriers |
