Empty Storage Place Stocktaking

Parallel counting of empty and occupied storage places during ongoing operations for continuous inventory maintenance.

Purpose

  • Reduce stocktaking effort.
  • Count every storage place at least once within the stocktaking period.
  • When a storage place is checked and found empty, this is done with minimal effort.

Prerequisites

  • Storage places that have not yet been checked within the stocktaking period.

Setup

  • SIEVERS WMS Setup:
    • Activate stocktaking.
    • Enter date formula (e.g. -6M for storage places not counted for more than 6 months).
    • Basic stocktaking setup / number series.
  • Set up WMS Teams with stocktaking team.

Roles

  • Warehouse employee: Execution on MDE device during ongoing operations.
  • Stocktaking management: Monitoring, posting approval.

Process Flow

Step 1: MDE login and select stocktaking team

  • Log in with login barcode.
  • Switch menu A > B with P1 (Ctrl+M).
  • Open B5 Stocktaking.
  • Accept stocktaking team and forklift with F5 (Ctrl+K) or by pressing Enter 3 times.

Step 2: New process and scan storage place

  • Scanning a storage place fills system data automatically.
  • The system shows the next storage places without a stocktaking date in ascending order.
  • A stocktaking is automatically created in the background.

Step 3: Confirm empty storage place

  • Confirm empty place with F2 (Ctrl+I).
  • Storage place is marked as inventoried.

Step 4: Record inventory (if inventory present)

  • If inventory is found: F5 (Ctrl+K) for identification.
  • Scan item (item number or GTIN barcode).
  • Record best-before date, batch, and other details.
  • Enter quantity and confirm.

Step 5: Complete

  • ESC to end the process.
  • If there are still open places, the system saves data automatically.
  • If activated, the journal is automatically created and posted.

Tipp

Empty storage place stocktaking can be performed in parallel with daily business and does not interrupt any other warehouse processes. It is therefore suitable for continuous inventory maintenance between annual key date stocktakings.
