Stationary Packaging

In stationary packaging, picked or order-related PTUs are inspected, consolidated, and packed into SSCCs ready for transport and customer delivery at a fixed packing station.

Purpose

Stationary packaging is used to bring together picked PTUs, verify the picking, and pack the goods ready for dispatch.

As a rule, item quantities are packed by load carrier, using the assignments from picking or warehouse receipt. In exceptional cases, packaging can also be done item by item.

Further use cases include unpacking or correcting quantities from an SSCC, particularly in connection with regular or reusable PTUs.

Prerequisites

The following conditions must be met to use this process:

  • A warehouse shipment exists.
  • Picked PTUs are available that were placed during the picking process.
  • Alternatively, a picking document exists with status completed.

Input and Output

Input

  • PTUs
  • Picked quantities

Output

  • SSCCs
  • Packed quantities

Process Flow

  1. Open packaging process

    • The packaging process header is displayed.
    • Switch to the PTU/SSCC information view.
    • Access via ALT+Q or via Warehouse Shipment Planning under "Related" > "Show Packaging Process".
  2. Scan PTU and SSCC

    • Scan the first PTU to be packed.
    • Then scan a blanco barcode to create a new SSCC.
    • Scan another PTU.
    • By scanning the same SSCC again, both PTUs are packed into one SSCC.
  3. Dimensions, weight, and label

    • Enter dimensions and weight.
    • Print the SSCC label via the preview.
  4. Completion

    • The order is packed and ready for dispatch.
    • If the carrier is set up with loading, the loading process follows.
    • If the carrier is set up without loading, the warehouse shipment can be posted after collection of the goods.

Process Classification

Packaging is a sub-process that can follow picking or series distribution.

If SSCCs have already been created in warehouse receipt, picking, or series distribution, the packaging process is supplied automatically. In this case, the warehouse user does not need to go through the packaging process manually.

If no SSCC has been created, packaging must be carried out before loading or posting the warehouse shipment can take place.

A separate packaging process is particularly required when different requirements for transport routes or customer specifications need to be met in the warehouse.

Variants

There are various variants of stationary packaging:

  • Stationary packaging: Standard process at a fixed packing station.
  • Multiple PTUs into one SSCC: Multiple load carriers are combined into one SSCC.
  • Convert PTU to SSCC: A PTU is converted into an SSCC at the packing station.
  • Pack item quantities individually: Individual item quantities are packed independently of the load carrier.
  • Unpack / Correct from an SSCC: Already packed quantities are corrected or removed from an SSCC.
